Splooting
Nature Trivia to
Tickle Your Brain

Splooting Squirrels
Splooting. Dogs do it. Cats do it. Bears do it. Birds do it. And squirrels do it too.
What exactly is splooting? It is when an animal lies flat on its tummy with its hind legs stretched out straight behind them.
It is a terrific way for them to keep cool on hot days. Scientists call this "heat dumping." It truly looks hilarious! It exposes a large part of their bodies to the air and the cooler surface under them. They can't sweat like we do, so this is a great way for them to cool off.
And sometimes our furry friends sploot to simply relax and stretch out. It reminds me of
a yoga pose that un-stresses their entire body. Ahhhh!

More to tickle your brain!
Just a quick note on why squirrels deserve our respect and admiration ...
They are so good for nature and the planet!
We need more trees, lots and lots of them,
to make our earth healthier. Our small but mighty friends, the adorable squirrels, move and spread and bury tree seeds and nuts.
What happens to those seeds and nuts?
Trees sprout!
More trees mean a healthier world.
High five to the squirrels!
Way to go to the Chunky Cheeks of Nature!
