Do Bears Really
Like Honey?

I have taken many, many pictures of honey bees, climbing right into the flowers, getting quite cozy and close to them. They are gentle creatures.
I believe that if I mind my own business and move slowly, they do not care if I'm there in their midst.
I am gentle and therefore they
are gentle.
After spending so much time with bees in my photo shoots, numerous questions have come to my mind.
One of the fun questions that has intrigued me is: Do bears like honey? Watching Winnie the Pooh,
one would think so.
But is he really true-to-life?
The answer is a resounding YES!
They have a fondness for honey and are attracted to beehives. They will eat honey, but it is not the only thing they will eat. They will also eat
the bees and the larvae inside
the beehive. Delish! They prefer immature bees over honey, as they are nutritionally rich with fat and protein, whereas honey is mostly sugar. Bears obviously are into healthy food over sugary food.
Wise of them!
Bears will raid beehives and will endure the wrath of the bees and their numerous stings. Their saving grace is their thick fur, but their faces and ears are less protected and will get stung. No doubt that is
a small price to pay for a wonderful and scrumptious dinner of honey and bees and larvae!
Just one more example of the
amazing world of nature!
