Baby Geese
Trivia

Baby geese, also known as goslings, are at the top of my list of cute baby animals.
They are fuzzy little guys & gals and have such sweet faces. After photographing these cuties, I wanted to learn more about them. After a bit of research I found out that baby geese are fascinating to
learn about!
NEST
The female chooses the nest sight, which she is quite picky about. She chooses a site that is isolated and a little elevated. She likes it to be near water. She also builds the nest.
She uses twigs, grass, weeds and moss to construct it and uses her body to put a slight depression in it, to give it
the classic nest-shape.

EGGS
Momma goose will lay 4 to 7 eggs. She lays them one egg at a time, one day apart, until the entire clutch is laid. She will wait to sit on them (incubate) until all the eggs are laid.
Dad will stand guard near by
to protect them during the time of incubation. All the
eggs in the nest will hatch on approximately the same day, usually in 25 to 28 days.
HATCHING
The baby geese hatch with their eyes open. Amazingly, they can walk within hours
and they can also swim immediately. They are covered with soft feathers (down).
Mom and dad will lead them away from the nest within
1 to 2 days, usually to water.
GROWING UP
The goslings feed themselves. Both mom and dad will take care of the goslings until they learn to fly. That is usually at
7 to 9 weeks old, which is also the time they get their adult feathers. Then off they go,
to spread their wings and begin their own lives.
Isn't nature simply awesome?
The more you know,
the more you will be amazed!
