Crystal clear amazing blue
is a wonderful color for the sky!

ON THE OTHER HAND ...
An odd shade of brownish-tan
is a terrible color for the sky!

What?! You must think this is
downright goofy! When is the sky
ever a brownish-tan???
Well, our big blue planet occasionally does not feel its best. It sometimes has a nasty case of smog-itus. That is a quirky word
I invented. It is not a real word. But I will be honest ... inventing words can be
loads of fun!
The main symptom? A brownish or tan haze that is in the sky. That haze is
called smog.
Smog is made up of things like pollutants (little dirty particles), dust,
or smoke. The pollutants can be from
a variety of things, like exhaust from automobiles and planes or gases from factories and power plants.
So the big question is how do we keep
our big blue planet from getting
smog-itus?
We can drive and fly less,
ride a bike or take public transportation to get where we need to go, sometimes take a vacation somewhere closer.
We can try to use less energy in our homes, turn off lights when we don't need them, use a little less air conditioning.
We can buy less things, perhaps buy recycled or used items. That way the factories won't have to make as much.

And you know what else would be
really cool and fun to do?
When you grow up, you could become
an expert in finding ways
to have less smog in our sky.
You could have an amazing job that makes sure the sky and air get cleaner.
You could be a part of something great
that gets rid of smog-itus for good!
Always remember that the kids of today can make the future of our world
AMAZING!!!
